From one format to another.
PNG, JPEG and WebP, written in your browser — free, with nothing uploaded — and AVIF where your browser can write it. HEIC opens where your browser can read it. Real AVIF in any browser comes from Cloud Pro batches, on a server.

Good to know
What it does, and what it doesn't.
01
Transparency
PNG and WebP keep it. JPEG has none, so transparent parts are filled white.
02
Your browser writes it
FyDark asks your browser to encode the file. Chrome and Edge write WebP; if a browser can't write a format, it hands back a PNG, and FyDark names the file by what was really written.
03
What opens
Whatever your browser can show — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF in current browsers. A GIF comes in as its first frame.
04
It depends on the browser
FyDark doesn't bundle a HEIC decoder. If your browser can't show HEIC, the studio says it couldn't read the file.
05
AVIF
Offered only where your browser can write it — Chrome can't, so there it's left out with a note. Cloud Pro batches encode AVIF on a server, in any browser.
06
SVG
SVGs aren't turned into pictures here; the SVG optimizer cleans them up instead.
Questions
Asked and answered.
Which format should I use?
WebP for photos and graphics on the web, JPEG where something insists on it, PNG for screenshots you'll edit again or where every pixel matters.
Does converting lose quality?
To PNG, no. To JPEG or WebP, a little, by the quality you choose.
Why won't my HEIC open in Chrome?
Chrome can't decode HEIC, and FyDark uses the browser's decoder. Open FyDark in Safari, or set the iPhone to save JPG.
Can I make AVIF for free?
Not as real AVIF in most browsers — Chrome can't write it from a page. Cloud Pro batches encode AVIF on a server; for a free, smaller format in your browser, use WebP.
Is my picture uploaded?
Not for the four browser conversions. JPG to AVIF uploads the pictures to a server, after you sign in with Cloud Pro.
